14/04/2012 - Government does not abolish Regional Spatial Strategies

The Government has still taken no action to introduce secondary legislation to abolish the Regional Spatial Strategies, reneging on its coalition agreement. The environmental assessments of the proposed abolition were published for consultation in October 2011, consultation finished on the 20th January. Since then nothing. The National Planning Policy Framework, with its “presumption in favour of development” was published at the end of March, for immediate implementation, removing most existing planning policy statements and guidance. This means that Local Plans/Core Strategies still in process must be broadly compliant with both the Regional Strategies and the National Planning Policy Framework, for the foreseeable future until and indeed if the Government delivers coalition agreement to .
It takes very little research to find how much this Government like the last has been influenced by the big development firms. So much for Localism
