Mid Bedfordshire Core Strategy Update

The final Planning Inspectors Report, following Examination, has been received and can be found at http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/environment-and-planning/planning/ldf/ldf-north-area/north-ldf-core-strategy-dev-mngmnt.aspx

Mid Beds had proposed 2,000 dwellings in the Aspley Guise Triangle, and an extension of the South Bedfordshire greenbelt to the north of the Bedford Bletchley railway line to protect Aspley Guise from coalescence with MK. The Inspectors view was that the size of any expansion of MK into Bedfordshire, should be a matter for the EE Plan review, and removed the reference. The Inspector was not supportive of an extension of the greenbelt, but was of the view that green infrastructure protection for Aspley Guise would occupy broadly the same area.

It should be noted that Central Bedfordshire and MK Councils have signed a Memorandum of Understanding agreeing 2,000 dwellings in Central Bedfordshire, subject to the EE Plan review. This was available to the Inspector in June.

The final core strategy is likely to be published in November and we look forward to seeing the final document.
