02/11/2008 - Second Round of Consultation on Eco-towns draft Planning Policy and Sustainability Appraisal

The second round consultation on the Governments Eco towns draft planning policy has commenced finishing on the 19th February. The documents being consulted on were released on the eco town web site on the 4th November two days before two roadshows were held in Bedfordshire on the 7th and 8th November. Printed copies of the documents were not all available and those that were would take 5-7 days to provide.

Concern has been raised with the Department of Communities and Local Government, that no-one knew of the road shows, and that any person attending was supposed to provide comment at the interactive booths without the time to consider the documents which were only available in time on line. A request for further roadshows, well publicised in advance, to be held in December.

The Society has downloaded some of the documents and have requested others. Not recieved over one week later and therefore all documents downloaded and will be considered before making representation.

The picture with this news item is of the computer graphic of the Marston Mortain proposed "eco" town taken from David Lock's presentation on eco towns in Australia. Compare this with the picture of land ownership on the Marston Mortain Action Group News Item to see perhaps why instead of a compact settlement around a major transport hub - this so called eco town is a linear development of sprawled small settlements.
